Victor Juc: Party's narrow interest prevailed and Republic of Moldova missed a chance
It is regrettable that the pro-European parties have not voted for the introduction of the European integration phrase in the Constitution because it is a country project. Unfortunately, however, the narrow interest of the party prevailed, said political analyst Victor Juc.
"It is regrettable that this chance has not been used by some political forces, because European integration is a country project. I do not think PL and PLDM have ceased to be pro-European, but at the moment, the narrow interest of party believed that someone will have electoral capital, but somebody will lose it. "As a result, the idea of European integration of the Republic of Moldova was lost, I believe that those who oppose this will speculate with deluxe details this failure, stressing that" here in Europe the pro-Europeans are not nor understood a referendum in the future will not be the expected result. "I think that the Republic of Moldova lost a chance even if it did not substantially change the introduction of this phrase in the Constitution.
It is a very important moment to try to complete once and for all with this geopolitical shipwreck. Amending the Constitution would have demonstrated that the strategic objective is European integration. At the moment it is not about becoming a member of the European Union, but about a process of modernization, a process of development. This would be a signal for both development partners and citizens, however, that we need to identify a single strategic priority, and the rest of the activities are foreign policy directions", said political analyst Victor Juc.
