The agricultural sector in Republic of Moldova needs investment, but this does not means that the authorities plans to give foreigners the right to buy lands. The statement was made by the Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, Nicolae Ciubuc, as an explanation for the erroneous information that has recently appeared in the press.
Ciubuc also said that there is no document, no initiative to liberalize agricultural land sales.
"Moreover, we have recently submitted the draft new Land Code to the Government, and it expressly states that at this stage there is no provision for the right to sell, buy land to foreign citizens," says the head of Agriculture.
The official also draws attention to the fact that the state offers enough mechanisms to invest in Moldovan agriculture for foreign businessmen.
"I want to express my regret that there are such breaks in the context of trying to speculate on statements or findings about the needs to attract investment in the agricultural sector. The agricultural sector really needs investment also in the context where in discussions with several foreign investors, it was found that one of the solutions would be the liberalization of the sale of lands to foreign citizens, but at this step I want to say that it is premature to discuss this because the land is the main wealth of the Republic of Moldova and we have to preserve it and have the continuity of the processes ", explained the minister.
Ciubuc also said that there is no document, no initiative to liberalize agricultural land sales.

"Actually, the legal framework provides for a number of possibilities that guarantees foreign investors the realization of investments, such as lease for a long time. I want to tell you that we have enough experience at the state level, where foreign investors on long-term lease contracts can accomplish their investment plans", said Nicolae Ciubuc.
