Smuggling Scheme with old objects. Recipient was owner of two antique stores in Chisinau
A smuggling scheme with furniture, dishes, frills, and other old objects has been conspicuous by the Customs Service.
According to preliminary information, the consignments were illegally brought from Germany by an economic agent from Briceni, who subsequently handed over to the owner two antique stores in Chisinau.
The mobile teams of the Customs Service detained, on the Balti-Chisinau route, a truck with more goods, without documents for the shops. The objects, estimated at about 400,000 lei, were camouflaged among other items of furniture and household items indicated in the customs declaration.
As a result of the checks of the stores where the goods truck is moving, more than 18,000 units of goods have been detected without legal documents (furniture, dishes, frills, hangings, statues, miniature vehicles, used household appliances, etc.) that would have been introduced into the country illegally.
According to estimates, their value is over 5 million lei.
Subsequent investigations will be carried out by the Customs Service and Prosecutors of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes and will state whether there are no objects of historical value among smuggling items.
If they are found guilty, the suspects risks up to 10 years in prison.
