The use and marketing of the disposable plastic dish could be banned from 1 January 2021. Parliament today examined the amendment of the legislation in this regard and voted it in its first reading.
The initiative belongs to a group of deputies and was presented by the deputy Stefan Vlas. According to him, the use and marketing of disposable plastic dishes, glasses, cutlery and sticks, except for biodegradable ones, is proposed to be banned from 1 January 2021.
Violation of these provisions is proposed to be sanctioned by a fine of 3,000 to 4,500 lei for individuals. Legal persons will be subject to a fine of 6,000 to 12,000 lei or a fine in the value of the product used, but not less than 12,000 lei.
According to the authors, non-recyclable plastic objects are a source of garbage for communities, burning poisonous gases, choking or interrupting the digestion of animals that consume them, and plastic degradation takes place between 100 and 400 years. At the same time, they propose as alternative disposable dishes made of paper, corn flour, organic hemp, sugars, wheat, sugar beet, sugar cane, starch, apple scraps or those containing biodegradable additives.
Previously, the national legislation was supplemented with provisions prohibiting, from 01.01.2019, the use and marketing of plastic bags.
According to the environmental strategy for 2014-2023, environmental protection is a matter of global importance, which must become a national priority, because it directly targets the living and health conditions of the population, the realization of the economic interests as well as the capacities for sustainable development of society.
