Cristina Balan: We managed to put our country on Washington radar
Relations between Moldova and the United States have progressively developed in recent years and are likely to remain positive. The statement was made by the US Ambassador to the US, Cristina Balan, in an interview for the Washington Diplomat newspaper. She also mentioned that she is making great efforts in this respect and believes that she has managed to put our country on Washington radar.
"We are ready to be a friend and partner of the US. We are a much stronger and more confident state than three years ago and we are determined to develop a free and diplomatic state and to contribute to security in the region".
Our country's ambassador to the United States has stated that Moldova supports the Trump administration's priorities for the region we are. Some of these, both on the agenda of Washington and Chisinau, are related to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and to ensuring stability in the region.
Cristina Balan spoke about the constructive dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol and the successes recorded. However, the diplomat said that Moldova needs US and EU support to persuade Russia to withdraw troops stationed in the Transnistrian region.
"The final solution depends on Russia, if it is willing to give up an important point of regional pressure, and we are asking for EU and US support in solving this problem", said Moldovan ambassador to the United States, Cristina Balan.
Cristina Balan, who is one of the roughly 20 women who represent her country as an ambassador to Washington, was asked during the interview and about the efforts she had to make to reach, at such a level, in a world led by men. Her answer was that, first of all, she did everything to be an example for her daughter, but for young people in Moldova.
"I want to say that I am honored to represent my country in the US. I'm investing all my energy on this mission. I think I managed to put Moldova on the radar of Washington, "said Moldovan ambassador to the US, Cristina Balan.
The Moldovan ambassador to the US has also talked about the fate of the Moldovan diaspora in America. The head of the diplomatic mission said that better communication is needed with the citizens of our country established in the United States. Among the topics addressed by our country emissary in Washington are Moldova's economic growth, relations with the EU, as well as the parliamentary elections in February 2019. Cristina Balan became ambassador of our country to the US in June this year.
