Head of garage and accountant chief at Institute of Emergency Medicine in capital was detained after demanding a 150,000 lei bribe
The head of the auto section and the department of economy at the Institute of Emergency Medicine (IMU) in Chisinau were arrested last night by anti-corruption prosecutors and NAC officers in a trafficking file of influence.
They are suspected of claiming different amounts of money from an economic agent who provides transportation urgent care to the Institute of Urgent Medicine to influence policy makers within the institution to expedite money transfers to the economic agent.
In fact, the IMU signed with the economic agent a contract for the provision of technical assistance for the fleet worth MDL 1,000,000. During the year, the agent provided several hospital services, and the administration would transfer his money for service.
In order to expedite the payments to the economic agent, the Heads of Economic and Automobile Divisions would have promised him that he would have influence over somebody responsible for the transfers and that he could cause them to hurry paying the sums. For their services, however, they would have asked for 15 percent of the money transferred by IUM.
Thus, under the control of the NAC, the suspects received in several installments amounts of 20,000 lei and 24,000 lei. Yesterday, NAC officers documented the transmission of the last sum in blame, managing to hold both heads.
They are currently in the NAC insulator for 72 hours. In this case, a criminal prosecution was initiated under art. 326 criminal code - traffic of influence.
If the guilty parties are found, both risk a penalty of detention for up to 7 years.
The criminal case is under the anti-corruption prosecutor's office.
Until a final decision is made, any person is presumed to be innocent.
