Coaches who have prepared athletes medalists athletes at the Olympic and Paralympic Games at the World or European Championships will receive a lifetime allowance monthly. Parliament voted in final reading the bill supplementing the Law on Physical Culture and Sports.
These allowances will benefit coaches who have been trained for at least 20 years and have trained over the last four years athletes who have achieved remarkable performances at international level.
Currently there are about ten preparing people who meet these conditions.
The amount of the allowance will be differentiated according to the medals.
Thus, for gold at the Olympic Games, the amount paid to the coach will reach up to an average salary in the economy.
In this way social equity will be ensured between performance athletes already receiving such allowances and coaches who prepare them.
For the implementation of the project, approximately 550,000 lei will be allocated annually.
The law comes into force on January 1, 2019.
