The Federation of Fighting of Republic of Moldova has a new President. Ion Gheorghiu is the new head of the national forum. He will replace Victor Peicov, who has been in charge of the Federative Federation over the past 18 years.
Victor Peicov had resigned in 2016, but it was not accepted. The official had made the decision because the Moldovan fighters had not achieved the four Olympic odds set as the target for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The new President of the National Winging Force, Ion Gheorghiu, said that the new position represents a great challenge and responsibility for him.
"I am extremely happy, but I feel a lot more responsibility because the Moldovan wrestling federation is called the best federation this year, it has tremendous performance, it is a challenge for me, it is an advance to take over this federation", said Ion Gheorghiu, the President of the Federation of Fighting from Moldova.
Mihai Cucu, the best coach of the current year, said the fighting federation needed a change.
"We, especially those from the Greco-Roman struggles, know Mr. Gheorghiu, I think that there was a change, and we know Mr. Gheorghiu well, he is a sporting man, a man from the sport world, a man from the federation ours", said Mihai Cucu, coach of Greek-Roman fights.
Alexandrin Guţu, the world champion among the cadets in the Greco-Roman fights, believes Ion Gheorghiu will face the new challenge:
"I think he will be a good president. He will sponsor us at every contest and is going to be a year with more success".
Ion Gheorghiu is an emeritus coach of the Republic of Moldova. As a fighter, he was European kick-boxing champion and triple European boxing champion.
