After more than a hundred years, a mansion in the center of Soroca was restored and transformed into a rehabilitation center. The edifice that dates back to 1912 is expected to host children and young people with emotional problems shortly.
Over the years, the building has been used for various purposes and has lost its original image, so architects who have taken care of the works have restored almost entirely the old facade.
"We saw through the picture that there were some brick pilasters and the continuation of the pylons that came out on the roof in the form of ornaments, we thought to undo them", said Ion Andrusceac, architect.
The idea of rehabilitating the historic monument and turning it into a useful center came from the Ministry of Health. The new institution is set to open its doors early summer.
"It will be an institution with a high specialization, unique in the Republic of Moldova, which will be an eight, ten children coming from all over the country. The reduced number of beneficiaries is explained by the complexity of the service, by the intensity of the work", said Ina Osadciuc, director of the Temporary Placement Center.
Later, an annex will be built.
"We considered that this separate building, which we proposed as a hobby space to be for, say so to paint icons on glass, to make some wooden objects", said Ion Andrusceac, architect.
The rehabilitation works lasted for about a year, and the whole process was monitored by the Agency for Inspection and Restoration of Monuments.
"The execution project was coordinated at the National Council of Historical Monuments in 2017. It is a good example for all", said Ion Stefanita, director of the Monument Inspection and Restoration Agency.
The rehabilitation project cost 2.6 million lei. The money was allocated by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection.
