DPM sues Jurnal TV for refusing to broadcast advertising on referendum
The Democratic Party of Moldova decided to sue the company holding the TV station Jurnal TV because this TV station rejected without any justification request of DPM to broadcast a video spot on the republican consultative referendum from February 24, 2019.
DPM considers that this defiant behavior of Jurnal TV violates directly the Electoral Code, which clearly states - including with reference to referendums - that the broadcasters give free to the electoral contestants one minute per day as advertising time and two minutes a day for a fee.
It is also states that in the application to the Chisinau Court we only request Jurnal TV to be obliged to broadcast the DPM spots according to the law, without payment of damages or compensation from Jurnal TV for the abusive conduct it has shown. We also mention that the DPM will also submit a referral on this subject to the Audiovisual Coordination Council.
Last week, the US State Department drew the attention of the media in our country that it must provide legal access to all competitors and reflect electoral campaigns in a fair, balanced and impartial manner, according to the legislation of the country.
