More than a thousand Moldovans recovered one million lei in 2018 from the economic agents who cheated or sold them non-qualitative goods. The money was reimbursed following complaints submitted to the Consumer Protection Agency.
In 70 percent of cases, litigations are settled in favor of buyers. According to official data, the most money, 26,000 euros, and took out a man from an insurance company, who refused to compensate him for a serious road accident.
But there are situations where it is not about money, but about principles. These include the case of a consumer who has asked for six lei and 80 dollars to be refunded after having bought a broken basket. There are also situations when consumers are intimidated by economic agents.
"It happened that in a bookstore a consumer entered and choosing a book to fall down, thus breaking a tab from the other book. The consumer was forced to pay the damage, and he refused to do so. court", said APC press officer Corina Gaiu.
"While writing the explanation, two employees of the private security agency entered the bookstore and, together with the administrator, resorted to verbal intimidation to force me to buy this damaged book. As a result of these verbal pressures, I had to buy the book".
There are also bizarre cases. A man claimed compensation after using a poor quality condom, and a woman tried to return a vibrator to a sex shop.
"It does not matter that it is a million, that it is a hundred thousand lei or that it is a lion. The consumer knows his rights, I believe this is the conclusion, when he goes and he knows he is right and his rights are violated", said Director of the Consumer Protection Agency, Iurie Eremia.
Many Moldovans quit looking for justice because the recovery process would take a long time.
"I throw him. I'm sorry because I do not have time to go to exchange or complain".
"I want to turn it back, change it or throw it away. Do you often throw yourself away?"
According to statistics, in most consumer complaints problems are encountered in maintenance, taxi and hotel services.
