DPM condemns aggressive acts in the campaign and urges all electoral contestants to respect law and reject violence
DPM condemns campaign aggressions that have taken place in recent days, such as burning cars, vandalizing election boards, physically and verbally aggravating electoral candidates or activists.
In this context, the DPM calls on all parties and candidates to conduct a fair and civilized electoral campaign, refraining from any aggressive acts, from any hate speech, as well as any unfounded allegations against other competitors.
"The Democratic Party of Moldova denounces categorically the campaign violence that took place in Balti on Monday night to Tuesday when was burned the car of Maxim Jordan - the son of DPM candidate for the 10th district, Sergei Jordan.
Also, the DPM condemns all aggression in campaign that have taken place in recent days, such as burning other vehicles, vandalizing election boards, physically and verbally aggression electoral candidates or activists.
Any acts of aggression in the context of the electoral campaign are totally reprehensible and must be promptly investigated by the police and the guilty should be held accountable.
At the same time, DPM calls on all parties and candidates to conduct a fair and civilized electoral campaign, refraining from any aggressive acts, from any hate speech, and from any unfounded allegations against other competitors. It is important for citizens to get acquainted with party projects, their proposals for the future of Moldova, and this can best be done in an atmosphere of calm and respect for the law.
DPM believes that campaign violence - including aggressive language and incitement to hate and violence - negatively affects the electoral climate, and those who lose out from this situation are primarily citizens.
We recall that The Democratic Party of Moldova is the first party to sign the Electoral Code of Conduct proposed by the CEC. Moreover, as early as December, before the beginning of the electoral period, DPM made a public appeal to decency and law enforcement during the campaign, an appeal to which, unfortunately, the opposition parties did not react.
We again call on the political opposition to rally our call to calm and non-violence, and to condemn, together with DPM, any campaign incidents, no matter who they are guilty of. If the opposition parties refuse to adopt such a position, we will consider that they approve of political violence and we will have to inform the voters in this regard.
We reaffirm that DPM wants to carry out a positive campaign, focusing on presenting our achievements over the three years of governance and our proposals for the next four years. Our only electoral weapons are the facts and commitments in favor of the people, and so we will convince the voters that we deserve their confidence", notes a statement issued by DPM notes.
