Preventing and combating violence against children - a common goal of whole society
Today, January 30, in several states in the world, including Moldova, the International Day of Against Violence in School is marked. In this context, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research presents the data of the generalized report for the first semester of the study year 2018-2019 on the reported cases of violence against the child.
Thus, according to the data, in the first semester of the 2018-2019 study year, employees of the education system reported 4,515 cases of child violence that occurred in the family, school or other places and services in the community. According to the report, most cases - 2.156, relate to physical violence, another 1,163 - to emotional violence, and 1,128 - to neglect. Also, 46 cases of labor exploitation and 22 suspected cases of sexual abuse were reported. During the same period, 698 cases were referred to the child protection authorities, being suspected or identified as serious cases of abuse.
We mention that the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research continuously carries out actions to prevent and combat violence against children, the most recent measures being the re-conceptualization, following the curricular reform, of the Education for Society discipline , mandatory for the students of the gymnasium and lyceum classes, and Personal development , implemented in grades I-XII. Thus, the curricula of both school subjects contain several learning units related to the recognition, prevention and combating of violence, including bullying (intimidation, harassment and systematic harassment). There is also a regular training and seminars at national level for teachers teaching these classes.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research reiterates the need for cooperation between central and local public authorities, educational institutions, teachers, parents, civil society and the media to ensure a safe, protective and inclusive educational environment for all children.
Violence, in any form, must not be found in the educational space, and the problem of violence must become a theme of reflection and attitude for all.
