Because history must not be forgotten, the authorities of Sofia village, Hincesti district, have installed a plate with the name of 23 former village residents who died during the Stalinist deportations. The initiative belonged to the oldest inhabitant of the village. He was the victim of the deportations, and the event matched with his 100th anniversary.
Constantin Cojocaru was 30 years old when he was deported to Siberia. It's been 70 years since then, but the old man does not forget the morning when he was forced out of his own home.
"At four in the morning they came with the guns and surrounded the house and a captain came from the village council. They told me: do not run, that's the house surrounded by guns, you run, I'll shoot you", said the victim of the deportations, Constantin Cojocaru.
Similar destinies had other inhabitants of the village.
"This is where my uncle lived and he was taken to Siberia in the Tiumeni region. They took them and left them in a forest and told them, take out trees, and take up your land and live. It was very hard."
"He was deported, because he did not want to vote for somebody. He said he did not want to vote for this person", said Constantin Prescornic, a resident of Sofia village.
The commemorative plaque, made with the financial support of an economic agent, was provisionally placed at the entrance of the Cultural House and will then be moved to a park in the locality.
