The Presidency was warned not to get involved in the election campaign, and the Party of Socialists was sanctioned with a warning. It is the decision taken by the Central Electoral Commission following complaints submitted by PL and the "Shor" Party, where the socialists were accused of using administrative and financial resources in the campaign through the Presidency. Liberals have called for PSRM to be excluded from elections, and the Ilan Shor-led party has demanded penalties.
"The President of the Republic of Moldova is reminded of the use of the PSRM's administrative resources on account of the use of images, attributes and notoriety given to the presidency of the Republic of Moldova as a constitutional institution, sanction in the form of a warning", said CEC member Iurie Ciocan.
The CEC found that Igor Dodon did not conceal his sympathies with PSRM. This is against the law. PSRM representative at CEC Maxim Lebedinschi did not agree with the CEC's decision. He also denied that the online banner promoting a call center for the so-called amnesty promised by Moscow to Moldovans would favor PSRM.
"The organization of several events with the presence of candidates for the position of deputy from the PSRM and PSRM members, transmission of the verbal intentions to support the PSRM, de facto, takes place an image transfer of the legal activity as president of the Republic of Moldova in the benefit of an electoral contestant", said CEC member Iurie Ciocan. "If there was no mention in this amnesty that people will come home for February 24, I would not have approached it", said CEC member Iurie Ciocan. The Liberals believe that the sanction imposed on the socialists is too mild. PL warns that it will challenge the CEC's decision in court and insist on excluding PSRM from the race.
