Ion Moraru anti-communist activist celebrated his 90th anniversary
Ion Moraru anti-communist activist who lived for a long time in a gulag celebrates his 90th birthday yesterday. Within a report, the man told about the suffering he has been through in five Soviet concentration camps.
Ion Moraru and his classmate Petre Lungu founded a resistance group, Sabia Dreptatii. The group was reveled by NKVD in 1947 and all the members have been arrested. Thus, Ion Moraru spent the following years in a gulag.
"-I am happy I escaped alive.
I didn't expect to escape alive, I expected to be murdered. I passed through five concentration camps", said Ion Moraru, former defendant.
On June 22, 1956 he was released from Kazakhstan concentration camp. His relatives met him when he came in Mindic village from Drochia district.
"I fell on their knees, but my grandfather told me to stand up", said Ion Moraru.
Ion Moraru wrote two books. Even during the national renaissance years, he was an active member of the Popular Democratic Party. He also received the Republic Award, while Putna Monastery decorated him with "Stefan cel Mare si Sfant" award.
