The longest and harshest fasting in the year, the Eastern Orthodox Great Lent has started.
Believers will have to adhere to a strict diet without meat, dairy, eggs and fish, and to give up the bodily pleasures.
Also during this period the priests changed their garments. The white coverings change with the black ones, this color being associated with repentance.
During the fasting, there will be two days of dispensation with fish, when the Orthodox celebrate the Annunciation and the Flowers.
Nutritionists recommend people to opt for a diverse menu, otherwise there is a risk of depression.
The priests urge believers to fast spiritually.
This year, Easter will be celebrated on April 28th.
