Ten years since April 7 2009 rally have passed. What do authorities say
Ten years passed since April 7, 2009 when dozens of young gathered in the center of the Capital and showed their dander about the April 5 election results. The coup started on April 6.
The young mobilized on a social media page, thus, the rally was called "Twitter revolution".
"If you didn't vote for PCRM come to the rally. See you there at 6 PM near Stefan cel Mare monument." this was the message launched on social media.
The violence started the next day.
On April 7 morning, five thousand young gathered in the center of the Capital. Many of them were throwing eggs and stones in the Presidency building. Then, they attacked the rescues cars.
When the number of the rally's participants reached 30 thousand, the guards couldn't handle them so they left. The bureaus of the Presidency and the Parliament were vandalized and set on fire. The policemen tried to stop the actions. Thus, the representatives of the both sides were wounded.
The rally participants continued until April 10.
According to the General Prosecutor's office, the instance detained 28 persons. Among them, 14 were sentenced, for 13 of them, the criminal file was closed and one was released.
Also, the prosecutors investigated the encroaches of the public authorities. They were blamed of influence peddling and torture. In this sense 24 persons were detained.
In the context of the 10th anniversary of this event, Mihail Cotorobai Public Lawyer declared that the number of requests made to the Prosecutor's Office was reduced.
According to him, one thousand complains were registered in 2009, while in 2017, only 650.
