A modern and large farmhouse will be arranged for two brown bears from the Capital Zoo. The Chisinau City Hall allocated six million lei for this project.
So, after 20 years of living in a cage having a 30 square meters surface, the two old bears, Vorciun and Masha, will enjoy a 60-ares pen garden where a fish pond will be dug and shrubs will be planted.
"From the greenery up to the top."
Visitors will watch the animals sitting over a six meter high fence for all activities of the bears, similar to those in freedom.
"Do not stay in the cage, but hang out in the tree or bathe in the lake", said Alexei Hantatuc, director of the Capital Zoo.
The project is to be approved by the State Construction Inspection. The zoo chief hopes that the works will begin in the summer, so that next spring, Masha and Vorciun can be moved to their new home as soon as they get out of hibernation.
"I think it will be a bit of a shock for them, but it will be all right. They will not be self-confident from the beginning, it will be a new territory", said Olga Iuzvac, manager of the Zoo.
By the end of the project, the animals continue to live in 30 square meters cage. This is because, according to the international standards, the minimum space for brown bears is 300 square meters.
The visitors say they are horrified by the conditions of their domestic bears in Chisinau, given that most zoos in the world have given up cages 15 years ago and have gone to savannah spaces.
"Who will survive in such conditions? The animal is big and needs bigger territory."
Housekeeping maintains that all animals and birds from the Zoo need to urgently double their space.
