Where you can see EXTRACTED objects in the people's bodies from the Capital
Coins, buttons, batteries, screws and clamps are just a few items from the doctors' collection from the Endoscopy Section of the Mother and Child Institute.
It seems incredible, but from the stomachs of the children arriving to the hospital, almost incredible things were extracted.
This year, doctors were asked to intervene in almost 20 cases. Specialists say that most patients have up to three years.
The administration of the department has collected for years the objects and created a small museum. Here every patient or parent can see the most unusual things swallowed by the little ones.
Doctors say they have encountered unusual cases, from 10 centimeters in the stomach, to deodorant caps in the vagina.
"These pins were extracted from the breathing paths of pupils with the age between 8 and 15 years. The following was happening: they wanted to catch something, they held the thumbtack in their mouths, somebody went behind them, pushed them, and the thumbtack went into the airway", said Victor Rascov, the head of the Endoscopy Section.
Liliana Scutelnic's boy arrived at the hospital after swallowing a fish bone.
"I took it quickly, I rinsed my mouth with water to see if I could do something. I saw that I do not know how and I called the family doctor", told the boy's mother.
The first is the X-ray, to see where the foreign object is positioned, then proceed to extract it. Intervention is performed under anesthesia.
"We introduce this device into the stomach or where it needs and adjust it back or forth. The device moves in four directions to allow grasping the foreign body", added the head of the Endoscopy Section.
"When a child swallows a foreign body, then the child can experience some pain, vomiting, leakage from the mouth. In the case of foreign bodies in the bronchi, the baby starts a cough", says Mariana Guzgan, an endoscopist doctor.
Doctors recommend parents to be vigilant and not to leave small objects, drugs or dangerous substances out of reach of children.
If they have noticed something suspicious, they should urgently address their doctor. Any intervention by an unqualified person can lead to complications.
