Infrastructure development and integration into European transport networks, rail modernization, energy sector reforms - were the main topics discussed by Economy and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici during a meeting with the Executive Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for Eastern Europe (EBRD) and the Caucasus, Matteo Patrone.
Representatives of the EBRD in Moldova, headed by Angela Sax, Head of the EBRD Office in Moldova, also took part in the workshop. According to Chiril Gaburici, the support and EBRD expertise is extremely important for the Republic of Moldova.
"EBRD is a key partner in implementing strategic projects for our country. Thanks to EBRD support, we have succeeded in improving our infrastructure, the energy sector, and the business climate. We have a lot of work to do and count on the support of our trusted partners, "said Chiril Gaburici.
In turn, Matteo Patrone, the Managing Director, Eastern Europe and the Caucasus (EEC) at EBRD, said he would continue to support the projects launched by the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure.
"I am glad that Moldova succeeds in implementing sustainable projects and in the interest of the citizens. We will create the necessary conditions for our bilateral relations to develop. I still want an effective collaboration with the government to improve the business environment, to create and develop a modern infrastructure and to support other major projects in the Republic of Moldova. "
Another topic on the agenda of the today's meeting was the level of achievement of the priorities of the Roadmap for the restructuring of the railway sector and Moldovan Railways (CFM) for the years 2018-2021.
The CFM leaders said the document foresees the initiation of a reorganization by separating the CFM into three independent equity firms for infrastructure, passenger and freight. At the same time, the creation of the Railway Agency, the Accident Investigation Authority, as well as the opening of the CFM market for private actors and the attraction of the new railway operators.
Currently, EBRD supports projects in the Republic of Moldova, most of the financial resources have been allocated to infrastructure development - over 60% and the energy sector - about 20%.
