The customs service continue the process of installing surveillance cameras at the customs crossing points. All border crossing points, internal control customs posts dislocated in the proximity of the administrative line with the Transnistrian region, as well as those established within the Chisinau International Airport and the post offices are covered.
Thus, some of the 180 existing devices have been replaced with new ones, depending on the additional wear and tear, and 160 more devices will be purchased.
The functionality of the existing ones was verified by the Customs Service Director, Vitalie Vrabie, who wanted to see how the real-time viewing of the monitored areas is ensured.
Monitoring takes place on a non-stop basis, involving several officers of the subdivision responsible for preventing incidents of integrity that may favor fraud. Therefore, the surveillance camps also include offices of customs inspectors whose activity is continuously monitored.
The installation of video surveillance systems is to be assured also in the 48 customs warehouses. This is because they are currently stocking goods worth a total of ROL 1.2 billion. And in the absence of effective supervision, there is a risk that the goods stored will be placed on the market without paying import duties.
