47 polling stations will be opened for Transnistria inhabitants
For the inhabitants of the Transnistrian region: 47 polling stations will be opened next month. At the presidential ones in 2016, only three sections were set up for those on the left bank of the Dniester River. The decision was taken today by the Central Electoral Commission.
Thus, for the uninominal constituency no. 47, which includes the towns of Camenca, Rabnita, Dubasari and Grigoriopol will have 22 polling stations, and for the district no. 48, of which the city of Slobozia, Tiraspol and Bender, will be 25 polling stations.
"We have appealed to the national and international observers, we also asked the Unified Control Commission to help us to ensure that all those who are settled on the left bank of the Dniester can achieve their right to vote", said Rodica Ciubotaru, vice-president of CEC.
The electoral authority has also established the number of polling stations for the diaspora, at the proposal of the Government. Abroad, 125 sections will be opened, 25 more than for the 2016 presidential election. At the same time, in countries like Croatia, Georgia, Norway and the United Arab Emirates, polling stations will be set up for the first time.
"So the information provided by the diplomatic missions and consular offices, the results of the preliminary registration, the number of voters who participated in the last national elections", said Rodica Ciubotaru, vice-president of the CEC.
Also, the number of ballots for the diaspora will be doubled in the parliamentary elections and the February 24 referendum to the presidential election in 2016. 2.5 million ballots will be printed. In total, about 625,000 Moldovans living abroad are expected to vote.
The parliamentary elections will be based on the mixed electoral system. More precisely, 50 deputies will be elected as before, on party lists, and 51 in uninominal or direct constituencies. In the diaspora three uninominal constituencies were established.
