Almost 600 vehicles from the Transnistrian region were registered at the offices of the Public Services Agency opened in September in Tiraspol and Ribnita. The data were presented at hearings to Parliament's Security Committee.
"In the Transnistrian region, 584 vehicles and five motorcycles have been registered, an online programming mechanism is in place, and we have more than 4,000 potential prospects", said Oleg Rotaru, a representative of the Public Services Agency.
Plates have begun to be released on September 10. The numbers contain three letters and three digits. Once they are obtained, the owners of the machines also receive a technical passport and the vehicle is marked with the "MD" sticker.
At the hearings, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Cristina Lesnic, referred to the incident in early September. Then several employees of the two car registration offices were illegally searched for by the called "Transnistrian militia".
"We prevented Tiraspol that if these incidents were to be repeated or replicated over time, we will have the right to suspend this mechanism", said Cristina Lesnic, Vice-Prime Minister for Reintegration.
Other protocol decisions, signed last year at Tiraspol, were discussed at the same meeting.
One topic was the free movement of students from the eight schools with studying in Romanian language from the Transnistrian region. Chisinau insists that these children can enter the so-called checkpoints based on pupils' books.
"We are talking about children, students who can not pose any risk. Tiraspol's unwillingness is, I would say, only a fad, element of political pressure", said Eugen Carpov, the president of the Security Commission.
In November 2017, the political representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol signed four protocols for resolving some pressing issues, such as the access of students to Romanian studies, the question of farmers' land, the signing of study diplomas and the restoration of the telephone link.
