Horticulture and viticulture specialists registered an increase in the number of cases of diseases of vineyards and orchards from the Republic of Moldova, with the harmful species drosophila suzukii - a fruit fly that affects the fruit during the maturation stage, writes provincial.md.
According to the researchers, the harmful species originating in Southeast Asia has massively invaded Europe as well as the Republic of Moldova and requires a number of counter-measures.
In this context, Tudor Cazac, a doctor in Agriculture at the Scientific-Practical Institute of Horticulture and Food Technologies, considers that "the methods of combating can be developed in several directions:
-organizational and general sanitation by destroying the remnants of fallen fruits after harvesting;
-chemicals by using insecticides, but there are some impediments in this case;
- Mechanical methods by using adhesive tapes, traps, special nets, but a promising method can be the biological control of insects - by using predators and insect pests, microorganisms, etc., which, according to research, are its natural enemies. "
