A laboratory of Oncological Institute is developed for forensic investigations
A laboratory of the Oncological Institute offers possibilities for forensic analysis. The equipment is intended for the extraction and study of DNA from various biological materials. The technology allows the discovery of a person who commits a crime or felony.
Now, the scientists are analyzing only the DNA of people with cancer, in order to develop new methods of treatment.
They give assurance that the technical possibilities and the methods of research may be applied also in criminalistics.
The DNA analysis is a meticulous process, which is done in a few stages. The first stage is the extraction of DNA from the biological material.
Afterwards, the researchers are checking the level of purity of the extracted DNA molecule and selects the part which will be further amplified and studied.
Then, the multiplied DNA fragments are processed with the help of an apparatus. At the end of the procedure there are obtained gross data about the persons. The information is stored in a computer and analyzed by a software.
Still, the laboratory does not have the reactives and consumables necessary for the forensic investigations. Also, there is no fridge for the stocking of DNA samples.
The place was created in 2015, with the Government support. The project costs 10 million lei.
