In the recent years, the public started taking notice of pupil harassment cases.

Last summer, a teacher from Ungheni was arrested on suspicion of being a pedophile, while two years ago two girls from Orhei filed a police report of being sexually harassed by their teacher.

According to Ministry of Education, in 2016 over 5 600 cases of child abuse were registered, be they in family, at school, or streets. This number has rose by 17% compared to 2015. Over 3 thousand of those cases refer to physical abuse, while 1 300 cases of emotional abuse and same amount for neglect.

There were also reported 170 cases of power peddling and 25 of sexual abuse.
