Amazing findings near Costești. What did villagers stumbled upon
The recent rains have uncovered a few graves near Costești village, Ialoveni. It was concluded that the remains date back to the XIV-th century. The bones were found by passersby, who called the police.
The graves were located on a road leading toward the vineyards and orchards of the villagers. Archaeologists have already managed to study them.
"There are traces of wood from the graves, as well as traces of coal, perhaps a burial ritual used a few centuries ago" USM lecturer, Sergiu Matveev said.
The discovery was declared important. Last year, another 14 graves were found not far. Specialists claim that a it was a big cemetery that existed in the village.
"At first it was believed that there were two cemeteries, but now evidence shows that it was a big necropolis, stretching out on two and a half kilometers, as big as a medieval city" Archaeologist Vlad Vornic said.
Locals were not impressed by the situation, as it is not the first time that in Costești were found archaeological sites.
The archaeological site from Costești dates back to the 4th century. Specialists claim that a medieval city was located on this land, just like Old Orhei.
