Andrei Nastase and Maia Sandu asked European Parliament to cancel Macro-financial assistance worth 100 million Euro
The debates within the European Parliament regarding to condition of the Republic of Moldova in the context of the elections weren't interesting for the MEPs as the hall was almost empty. At the discussions participated only couple dozens out of the 751 European deputies. At the end, the resolution proposed by the political partners of Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase was adopted. The document proposed by Maia Sandu, Andrei Nastase and Viorel Ciubotaru, PLDM leader recommends the European Commission to cancel the Micro-financial assistance for our country.
The discussions at the European Parliament were based on fulfilling the European requirements. One of the initiators to cancel this project is Cristian Preda, a friend of Sandu and Nastase.
"I request to cancel the Micro-financial support the EU should offer to the Republic of Moldova", declared Cristian Preda, PPE Euro parliamentary.
The project was criticized by the socialist and democratic European deputies who voted against, while a big number of MEPs didn't vote at all. They highlighted the decision of the Chisinau Court to invalidate the elections.
"Through this resolution, you asked the Moldovan Government to fulfill certain conditions. I have seen that you have even talked with Poland and criticized it that they don't obey the decisions of the courts. Now you ask the contrary from Moldova", said Dobromir Sosnierz, MEP.
Victor Bostinaru, Romanian MEP highlighted the contradiction of the document.
"We don't have any proves to say that the authorities influenced the decision of the court. It is against the state of law to intervene in such a decision. I want to tell the Chisinau authorities not to set the country on fire, as you should build a pro European coalition after the parliamentary elections", said Victor Bostinaru, MEP.
The European deputies though that the judicial decision should not have an influence on the reforms and the funding.
"The independence of the justice is under doubts, after the mandate of Andrei Nastase was invalidated. This is why, Moldova should continue to implement the reforms that were started by the Governance", said Jose Inachio Faria, MEP.
Andri Cristea, MEP said that it will be a great mistake if they cancel the Macro-financial assistance project: "We should be rational and recognize that Moldova will stop its European path in case we cancel this project. That is why, we should think twice before making a decision."
This opinion was also supported by Bestiaan Belder, Germany representative in the EP:" The citizens should not suffer."
The suspension of the Marco-financial assistance requested by the PPE Euro deputies mean that the EU opens Republic of Moldova the opportunity to cooperate more with Russia. The declaration was made by Maria Grapini, Romanian Euro parliamentary.
"We can't play with the fate of a country. We can't play with the European path of a country. We have a single chance to integrate in the EU. How can you write at the beginning of a resolution that you have doubts. We should be very careful when we propose something to a Government. I agree that the results of the elections should not have been annulled. We can't to this to the citizens, most of all, they need this Macro-financial assistance. I won't vote for this resolution", declared Maria Grapini, Euro parliamentary."
On Wednesday, the EU delegation to Chisinau announced that the next tranche of Macro-financial assistance for Moldova will be canceled, because not all of the requirements of the EU were fulfilled.
