Andrian Candu in Washington: 90% of money stolen from Banca de Economii have been found
90% of the money stolen from the Economy Bank, the Social Bank and Unibank have already found by prosecutors, announced Andrian Candu, the President of the Parliament within a debate organized in Washington by Atlantic Council. The chief of the legislative declared that the persons responsible of the fraud have already been found.
"We already have over 45 criminal cases and over 55 persons whom we investigated. Some are arrested, while others are sentenced. 90% of the actives have already been found. Now, we talk about the process of recovering", mentioned Andrian Candu.
Previously, the Anti-prosecutors office also announced that the total sum of the theft in the bank system is 10,7 billion lei. The beneficiaries of 9,5 billion lei have already been found. The money were taken by two big groups, the so called "Gacikevici Group, leaded by the former director of Banca de Economii and "Filat, Platon, Sor" group, who managed to take 6,5 billion lei.
At the beginning of August, the zeppelin.md journalists published an audio recording, where Veaceslav Platon tells his lawyers that he wanted to break the financial system from Moldova. The journalists say that the recording passed an expertise that proved that the voice belongs to Platon.
"I could have done everything possible to be the chief of this country. I could have broken the bank system of Moldova. The ATMs could have been blocked and people would have not been able to take their money. I didn't manage. Some other problems appeared and everything stopped", said Veaceslav Platon.
In April 2017, Veaceslav Platon was sentenced to 18 years for fraud and money laundering within the case of Banca de Economii fraud.
