Authorities began rehabilitating the Jewish cemetery in Chisinau. Andrian Candu went to spot
The authorities began the rehabilitation of the Jewish cemetery in Chisinau, a national monument of history and art.
The reconstruction plan was consulted today during a documentary visit by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, representatives of the Jewish Community of Moldova, and Paul Packer, President of the US Commission for the Conservation of American Heritage Abroad, and Tali Ploskov, Vice President State of Israel Knesset, co-chair of the Israel-Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Recently, the cemetery was transferred from the Chisinau Municipal Council to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research.
The Jewish cemetery, with an area of over 12 hectares and over 40 thousand graves, has been in operation since 1887. It is one of the oldest cemeteries in Chisinau, being included in the list of national and national art monuments.
In the cemetery there are several tombs and monuments of over a century, as well as a funeral synagogue, unique in Moldova, requiring repair. Funeral funerals are still happening today.
