Canadian Defense Minister: Population's resilience is a factor for a state's security
Defense Minister Eugen Sturza had a meeting with his Canadian counterpart Harjit Singh Sajjan at the International Security Forum in Halifax, Canada.
The evolution of the security environment in the Republic of Moldova and in the region, the challenges to the state security, including the hybrid threats, as well as the importance of combining international efforts to prevent and combat them, have been on the agenda of the two officials.
The Canadian Defense Minister mentioned at the meeting that the success of a democratic state depends largely on the ability to attract more people to the joint effort to ensure security.
At the same time, Harjit Singh Sajjan appreciated the contribution of the Moldovan militaries to the consolidation of international efforts to ensure peace and stability, and especially the increasing participation of women in such missions. In this regard, the Canadian Minister welcomed the country's implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, advancing the processes of women's involvement in the security and defense sector.
In turn, Minister Eugen Sturza highlighted the support of the Canadian Government, as a NATO member country, in the destruction of anti-personnel mines, expired ammunition and a significant amount of melange-like rocket fuel from the National Army's stock of the Republic of Moldova. Eugen Sturza said that our country was one of the first states to implement the provisions of the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Production, Transfer and Destruction of Anti-Personnel Mines.
The Parties agreed on continued security cooperation in the region.
