Candu: If PL and PLDM will not vote for introduction of phrase "European integration" in Constitution, we will organize a referendum

If the PL and PLDM deputies will not vote for the introduction of the phrase "European integration" in the Constitution, the government reserves the right to organize a referendum on this. The statement was made by the speaker Andrian Candu before the Legislature meeting.
"You have heard the debate last week". We postponed the vote because we thought that some colleagues (PL and PLDM) will understand that there is a chance now and it is a chance today to guarantee constitutionally that the Republic Moldova will only have European integration as a model of development.
We do not know how this vote will end. We think that this vote will not be supported by the PL and PLDM colleagues. If there is a failure today, it is not a failure of the DPM or any party, but it is a failure of the political and the country that has the chance today to create a European future.
We have the right and consider the possibility of initiating a referendum on European integration. This referendum should be organized probably on the same day as parliamentary elections to save money, but just as soon as we will do it, we will return to this issue with the Constitutional Court's decision on the possibility of organizing a parliamentary election referendum. The fact is that we will not give up on the idea of European integration and change the Constitution on the subject of European integration.
It doesn't matter today's vote and as a possible failure, we are examining the possibility of examining this referendum. This topic was widely discussed at this week's party meeting. Colleagues understand the importance of the subject and we can not give up just because of the colleagues in Parliament.
