Bank cards are increasingly used by Moldovans. It confirms the data of the National Bank, which shows that only in 2018, more than 50 million operations were carried out, almost 10 million more than in 2017.

At the same time, in the 12 months of last year, approximately 613 thousand cards were issued, with more than 47 thousand more than two years ago.

According to the NBM report, Moldovans still prefer to withdraw money from cards and pay in cash. In this regard, almost 45 billion lei were removed from the ATMs, almost five billion more than in 2017.

At the same time, the number of people who pay using the card directly increases. In total, payments of more than seven billion lei or more than two billion lei were made more than in the previous year.

The data also show that in 2018 the number of Moldovans who use abroad the bank cards issued to us in the country increased. Thus, the equivalent of 696 million lei was withdrawn and more than five billion lei were spent directly on the card.

In the same report of NBM, it is mentioned that foreigners who visit our country are increasingly using bank cards. They have carried out operations worth over seven billion lei, of which more than three billion lei were paid using the card.

In our country there are almost one million 936 thousand cards in circulation and 1138 ATMs operate.
