26 Moldovans were deceived by representatives of a labor agency. They were promised a good job in Spain, but they came to slavery.
The case came to the attention of the authorities and the media after a social networking video has appeared in which a victim complains that, together with other fellow citizens, they are held in inhuman conditions and exploited through work in Spain.
At a press conference, Prime Minister Pavel Filip announced that a criminal case has been opened in this case. Also, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Spain intervened and helped these citizens. Within a few days, with the help of the Foreign Ministry, they will return home.
"In this case, there is already a criminal case, the bodies are in charge, and our embassy intervened immediately, and these citizens were given first aid, and the Foreign Ministry will help them come home", said Prime-Minister Pavel Filip.
PUBLIKA.MD reminds that the National Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons in Chisinau opened an investigation on this case. According to the head of the institution, Lilian Levandovschi, the agency's office was closed.
The immobile's owners from the Rascani sector where the agency is located blocked access to the building. Contact by the phone, the company's representatives rejected any indictments.
Meanwhile, the embassy of Moldova and the consular office of our country in Spain provided our fellow citizens with a temporary living place. 11 people were accommodated in the Red Cross centers, eight were searched by the police, and four were looking for a better job.
And law enforcement agencies in Madrid have already opened a criminal case and detained a suspect. Lilian Levandovschi does not specify his citizenship but says the man is of Gipsy origin.
If found guilty, the employment agency's employees are facing up to 15 years in prison for trafficking in human beings.
