CEC: Chisinau local elections were declared null
The local elections from Chisinau were not declared valid and the next elections will take place on summer of 2019. This decision was approved today by the Central Election Commission, after the magistrates did not validate the mandate of Andrei Nastase.
"What about declaring null the Chisinau elections, five magistrates voted for it and two against", said Alina Russu, the CEC president.
Five members of CEC voted for and two against.
According to CEC, there is not a legal base to organize new round of elections.
"As we are already within the last year of the Ordinary Covenant of Mayors to complete their mandate until the end. And, at the same time, we can not organize new local elections now because the Electoral Code provides for a norm that states that in the case of vacancies or other matters express, the elections can be organized only twice a year", said Alina Russu, the CEC president.
The round from June 3 wasn't validated, because Andrei Nastase, the PPDA leader and Ion Ceban, the PSRM leader made electoral agitation on the day of silence.
