The governor of the National Bank (BMN,) Sergiu Cioclea wants to introduce coins of 1 leu and 2 lei instead of the paper bills.
"It’s more expensive to pint banknotes, their nominal values is very low. So we think of introducing coins. We started the discussion with the Government but felt a kind of reluctance. We role is to persuade them, to explain it to journalists and firms," Sergiu Cioclea said at the public television.
He added the 1-leu bills get worn out fast and the coin recommendation came from the International Monetary Fund.
