Central Election Commission will gather for a new meeting
Central Election Commission will have today a new meeting. During this meeting, the CEC members will examine the files of five initiative groups who will collect signatures for the support of the nominees for position of president.
On Friday, 9 September 2016, was finished the period for application of files for the registration of initiative groups. 24 persons have announced their intent to run for the position. According to the legislation, they have to collect over 15,000 signatures from at least half of country districts. At the same time, CEC registered 16 groups, which will collect signatures until 29 September 2016. Three potential nominee have already presented the lists with the collected signatures. They are the nominee of the Popular European Party, Iurie Leanca, the Liberal Party nominee, Mihai Ghimpu, and the nominee from the Democratic Party, Marian Lupu.
The democratic leader has collected over 29,000 signatures.
