The Government approved today the decision about the negotiations on draft Financing Agreements between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) regarding the rehabilitation of the national road M5, which includes the section of road from the border with Ukraine - Criva - Balti - Chişinău - Tiraspol. The R14 and R13 roads, which refer to the road section on the Balti - Floresti route, will also be rehabilitated.
According to the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Mr. Chiril Gaburici, "The implementation of road rehabilitation projects in the country will lead to the reduction of the total road transport costs, the integration of the Moldovan road network into the European network, as well as the improvement of the conditions for transport of goods and passengers".
Financing agreements between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and ICBC are a continuation of the Road Sector Program Support Project implemented with the support of the International Financial Institutions. It aims to support the Republic of Moldova both in the rehabilitation of the national road network in order to facilitate the road transport and to increase the safety and the capacity of the road network management.
The Road Sector Program Support Project has the specific objective of "ensuring the rehabilitation, upgrading and repairing of all national roads" as outlined in the Transport and Logistics Strategy for 2013-2022.
