Unqualified services should be reported to authorities empowered with consumer protection functions and money should be returned to citizens, informed the Minister.
In the first months of 2018, over 1,200 petitions were received from the Agency for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance (APCSP), an administrative authority subordinated to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure.
"The large number of petitions sent to the Consumer Protection Agency and Market Surveillance, on the one side, shows that we still have to work to comply with the consumer protection legislation as well as state control over the conformity of products and services placed on the market, and on the other hand, this figure demonstrates that citizens are active and trust the Agency's attributions and rights, and their legitimate interests will be protected", said Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Chiril Gaburici.
From the 1212 petitions registered during the reference period, the APCSP examined 766 petitions, 303 - were readmitted to other authorities according to their competencies, and 143 petitions are in examination process. As a result of the examination of the petitions, 182 successful cases were recorded, out of which in 136 cases, the value of the purchased goods was reimbursed to the consumers in the amount of 961,944 thousand lei. Legal measures were applied to the examination of 45 petitions from the total (766) examined, respectively fines were imposed in a total amount of 176.75 thousand lei.
The most common cases addressed to citizens at the Consumer Protection Agency and Market Surveillance are:
non-conforming services - 394 petitions: taxi services - 78, hotel services - 60, communal services - 91, telephony and telecommunication - 25, car transport - 18, air transport - 16, non-observance of contractual clauses - 13;
non-compliant industrial products - 198 petitions: mobile phones - 82 and household appliances - 59;
rules of trade - 197;
public food and non-compliant food - 37.
"For us, it is very important that all normative acts be respected, that citizens benefit from qualitative services and that their rights are always respected. In the case of poor quality services, the consumer must address consumer protection authorities, including the Consumer Protection Agency and Market Surveillance. I hope that economic agents and consumers will also be responsible and promotors of law enforcement", said Chiril Gaburici.
In August this year, a working group was set up to improve the situation in the field of taxi services and assure the citizens with qualitative services, following the instructions given by the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Mr. Chiril Gaburici.
