The achievements in IT and the actions that will be taken to attract large IT companies were discussed at the meeting of the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Chiril Gaburici, with the representatives of PwC, a service provider of the Good Governance Fund, financed by the Government Great Britain.
The parties also talked about the need to streamline the activity of state-owned companies, including by means of privatization tools, to make them profitable.
"We analyze various possibilities - concessions, partnerships, privatizations of state-owned enterprises. We consider that state-owned enterprises must be profitable and in this respect we have to solve the issue of management efficiency." We count on PwC's support and recommendations in streamlining the management of state-owned enterprises , in boosting rational privatization processes and having long-lasting positive effects, because you have experience in this area", said Chiril Gaburici.
PwC representatives have mentioned the experience of privatizing several Romanian companies in the energy sector, which are now profitable. The experts appreciated the effort of the Government of the Republic of Moldova to improve the business environment conditions.
"I was pleasantly impressed to find that the Republic of Moldova has succeeded in adopting a set of fiscal measures to facilitate the IT industry's activity. It is a very good thing and the results will be visible over time." Although the tax burden is reduced, budget revenues will increase, because many will start to work legally. You did a great thing when you introduced the unique tax for IT parks. For Romania, the tax incentives granted to the IT companies in the early 2000s led to the sustained development of this sector , which now contributes more to GDP than agriculture does. "I am convinced that the Republic of Moldova, with outstanding human resources in the IT sector, will be a new model of success in this field," said Ionut Simion, Country Managing Partner, PwC Romania.
Minister Gaburici thanked for the support given to clarifying the latest legislative interpretations by the Ministry of Finance and the State Tax Service regarding the application of the unique tax for IT companies.
PwC representatives have shown willingness to provide the necessary support to attract large IT companies in the Republic of Moldova, active in Romania and the South East Europe region.
The sides agreed on an impact assessment on the IT sector, aiming at evaluating the results of the IT reform implementation in the Republic of Moldova one year after its implementation. PwC experts will come up with suggestions and recommendations on maximizing the potential of this area.
