Chisinau City Hall's facade will be renovated
Chisinau City Hall's facade will be renovated. The announcement was made today by interim Mayor Silvia Radu. According to the official, the project is nearly completed and an auction will soon be opened to establish the company that will do the renovation works.
The building was constructed in 1902. According to specialists, it was not only an administrative building, but also a cultural center. In 1941, it was destroyed by the Soviet Union and rebuild a few years later.
"Alexei Şciusev, a renown architect insisted to return to the initiated project and make the building look as it did at first" historian Iurie Colesnic said.
Since that time the building was repaired twice.
"The City Hall's facade was not repaired in over 30 years. The budget for those works, which will begin this year, is of nearly 30 million lei."
According to local authorities, the project foresees for certain historical elements to be kept.
"All archives from both Republic of Moldova and abroad were searched. From what we understood data was taken even from Germany. Everything existing regarding the architecture of this building was searched" interim Mayor, Silvia Radu said.
Citizens of the Capital were pleased by the news, as the building is a key aspect of this city and requires urgent renovation.
"The building needs to be repaired, it can be seen."
"I believe that he City Hall has to be the most beautiful building in the city."
"It has seen better days. Still, it is placed in the hear to the city and has to look great."
In 2015, a 2 meter piece of plaster of the City Hall fell on the pavement. Luckily, nobody was hurt.
