Chisinau requests Moscow to cease pressures upon Moldovan officials visiting Russia
Moldova has once again requested Russia to cease pressuring Moldovan officials and to stop blackmailing with investigations politicians from Chisinau. The request was made by Minister Tudor Ulianovschi during a meeting with State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Grigory Karasin, who is currently paying a visit to Republic of Moldova.
"We reiterated during the talks our wish to solve and overcome all existing issues, as well as exclude cases of abuse and pressures upon citizens of Moldova, including politicians and officials from our country" Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tudor Ulianovschi said.
A year ago, authorities from Chisinau sent a note of protest to Moscow, after multiple officials were held back for no reason at airports from Russia. Another issue discussed by Ulianovschi and Karasin were the cases used by KGB to blackmail politicians from Moldova. The parties have agreed to find solutions to overcome the diplomatic conflict. Within the visit, it was also announce that Ambassador Andrei Neguţă will return to Moscow, after he was recalled at the end of last year.
During the meeting, other issued and subject were spoken of, such as cooperation within the investigation of money laundering through Moldovan banks, as well as the regulatory process of Transnistria.
"We highlighted that the withdrawal of Russian troops and munition from Transnistria could become the key aspect in solving the conflict. A step in this direction was taken today, when it was decided that Ambassador Andrei Neguţă will return to Moscow" Minister Tudor Ulianovschi said.
In his turn, the Russian official declared that Russia is ready to have a constructive dialogue.
"Solving the conflict with Transnistria requires new developments. The talks, which took place within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Chisinau confirmed the wish of both parties to solve in a pragmatic way the existing problems. A successful meeting previously took place between Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Moldova, Mr. Lavrov and Mr. Ulianovschi, in February, at Munich" Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Grigory Karasin said.
Relations between Moldova and Russia took a turn for the worse in 2017, after Moscow begun pressuring officials from Chisinau.
