Columnist Nicolae Negru: Opposites mistakenly not to join debates. Mixed voting also benefits the oppositionÂ
President Igor Dodon promulgated the electoral system law, adopted by Parliament in final reading. Thus, the 2018 parliamentary elections will be organized on the basis of mixed voting. 50 MPs will be elected on party lists and 51 - directly by citizens, in uninominal constituencies.
Editorialist Nicolae Negru said in an interview for Free Europe that the opposition failed yesterday exam and even when people want to change the electoral system, as polls show.
According to the columnist, the mixed voting system also benefits the opposition, and they was wrong because of their disappearance in the debates on the mixed voting Bill.
The opposition could have insisted on important articles. For instance, the electoral threshold for parties has not been lowered and this is the their disadvantage.
Another consideration: the constituency votes are in two rounds, not one round. If they organized in two rounds, then the opposition could consolidate, solidarize against both the PD and the PSRM, "the columnist said.
According to the new amendments, the candidates will have to submit an integrity certificate stating their assets and income at the next poll.
