Commemorating war victims. Event dedicated to Afghanistan war took place in Chisinau
Hundreds of veterans participated at the 30th anniversary of the withdrawn of the soviet troops from Afghanistan. The veterans put flowers at the monument of Stefan cel Mare si Sfant.
Even is 30 years passed, the veterans of the Afghanistan war say they can not forget this.
"It is a pity that this happened. Anyway, we will never forget it", said Iacob Gorcea.
Constantin Racovita says that the most painful moments are the ones when their friends were dying.
"We are looking for two of our friends. We have been attacked. One of them burned alive, while the other one had his head cut off", said Constantin Racovita veteran.
Many officials also put flowers at the monument.
"Today, we are remembering the ones who died for peace. We are proud that they participated at this war", said Mihail Mocanu, the president of the Veterans' Union.
"It is a great honor to be here today and remember the most courageous people of our nations. It is a big honor for us to commemorate them", said Eugen Sturza, the minister of Defense.
At the end of the event, the veterans have been fed.
"Rest in peace. Many of them died, while others are still alive."
Approximately 13 thousand Moldovan soldiers participated at the Afghanistan war. 300 of them died on the war field.
