Communists will boycott consultative referendum from February 24, 2019
Communists will urge voters to boycott the consultative referendum, which will take place on February 24, 2019, the same day as parliamentary elections. The announcement was made by Communist MP Elena Bodnarenco at a private television station.
At the plebiscite, the Moldovans are going to say whether they want the number of deputies to be reduced from 101 to 61, and if they agree that the people's elected may be deprived of their mandate for failing to fulfill their commitments.
The initiative to hold a consultative referendum at the same time as the parliamentary elections belongs to the democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc.
The proposal is supported by several parties, including Andrei Nastase's PPDA.
In a show, the PPDA leader urged people to vote for a reduction in the number of MPs, even if the initiative comes from his political rival Vlad Plahotniuc.
According to the latest poll "Vox Populi", conducted by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers, 72 percent of Moldovans plead for the decrease of the number of deputies.
