Cooperation with US partners: Projects and achievements
At the end of last week, the Border Police General Inspectorate hosted a working meeting with representatives of the US Department of Energy, an activity aimed at enhancing cooperation relations in preventing illicit trafficking in nuclear materials and other radioactive materials.
Among the topics on the agenda were the joint activities carried out in the context of the development of border control capacities, especially the field of non-proliferation of nuclear and radiological materials at the state border.
The meeting started with a retrospective of the bilateral cooperation route in securing state border security, an increasingly pressing necessity generated by multiple modern challenges. Deputy Chief of Border Police Veaceslav Garstea thanked the American people for the consistent support given to our country and the growing involvement in the enhancement of institutional capacities.
The Border Police General Inspectorate as an authority that contributes to the fulfillment of commitments undertaken through International Programs funded by external partners such as the Program for "Detecting and Preventing Cases of Nuclear Smuggling" funded by the US Department of Energy, wants to demonstrate that it is a trusted partner and can act at the highest standards.
During the meeting the continuous process of institutional and organizational reform was appreciated, which is to improve the quality of the safety services offered to the citizens. In this context, the transmission of five means of transport, technical observation and state border control equipment to the Border Police is planned for the next period.
Currently, the US Government is one of the main partners of the Moldovan Border Police in terms of assistance provided through projects and financial assistance programs.
