Court of Appeal backed the decision taken by Chisinau Court to not validate the mayoral elections
Chisinau Court of Appeal did not validate the elections from 3rd June. Magistrates have backed the decision taken by the first court. The decision was taken yesterday and can be appealed at the Supreme Court of Justice. Leader of PPDA, Andrei Năstase, who submitted the appeal, claimed to not agree with this decision.
"The appeals made by PPDA, candidate Andrei Năstase, PSRM, Electoral Council were rejected, the decision taken by Chisinau Court, Centru office, on 19th June 2018 on this case remain in force and the mayoral elections from Chisinau were not validated."
Andrei Năstase declared the decision a political one.
"We will appeal.
- What do you believe they will decide?
- What do you think? I do not wish to make bets, but everything is possible in this country, today proved it" Andrei Năstase said.
The hearing lasted nearly five hours, before a decision was taken, Andrei Năstase declared that regardless the result, he will continue to protest.
"We are not interested in the court's decision. We will protest to defend democracy."
During the hearing, a group of Năstase's supporters, led by PAS leader Maia Sandu, protested in front of the City Hall.
"We will not give up!"
"We came to fight for our vote."
Dorin Chirtoacă was also found at the manifestation, with a generator.
The protest did not finish without incidents. A group of street singers were harassed and cursed, while their box with money was thrown in the middle of the street.
During the protest, dozens of police officers ensured public order.
