Customs officer, policeman and two drivers accused of bribery at Otaci custom post
A superior inspector of the Briceni customs bureau within the Control Unit of the Otaci border and two bus drivers to be on the accusation desk soon. The penal case of the suspects were already sent to the Court.
The inspectors are blamed of passive corruption, while the divers for active corruption.
All of them were detained in October month of the past year at the Otaci Custom Post. The leading of the Custom Post addressed to the Instances, saying their employees practice bribery actions.
According to the prosecutors, the drivers were gathering the money from the passengers so fasten the passing process. More exactly, they were receiving 10 lei from each passenger and 50 lei from each bus. Totally, the sum of 1 200 lei were gathered to avoid the controls and make the passing process a faster one.
The illegal scheme was applied from 2016 to 2017 year. Thus, daily, the custom post officers were bribed. Within the searches, the border officer had 1 000 lei and the custom post contributor 1 200 lei. The suspected were urged not to leave the territory of the country.
If found guilty, the inspectors risk fines between 50 and 100 thousand lei, also, they will lose the right to fulfill some public functions for five years. For active bribery, the drivers risk between 3 and 7 years in prison and fine of 300 thousand lei. Also, the suspects are obliged to recover the judicial costs in sum of 39 476 lei.
