Danger has passed! Number of animals who suffer of rabies decreased
The number of infected by rabies animals decreased with a half, in accordance with the last year. More exactly, from 96 to 56. According to the National Agency for Food Safety, at the end of 2917, there were three cases of animals infected with rabies, in Hancesti, Leova and Dubasari.
"After the bite, the virus spreads through the nervous system. The risk of infection is greater if the bite is close to the central nervous system, near the spine or head, "said Artiom Shevcenco, veterinarian.
Most frequently, the virus is transmitted by the wild animals, as foxes, rats, squirrels that can even infect the domestic ones. The vaccine against rabies costs between 100 and 300 lei and those should be made once in a year.
Some people don't take into consideration those risks.
"We don't vaccinate them. Our dog stays only in the yard, he doesn't go anywhere", said a woman.
Other people are more conscious.
"Our cat goes outside and contacts with other animals. If we would't do that, he can catch an infection", said a man.
While domestic animals have to take care of their masters, the authorities are responsible for wildlife, but they are not always able to monitor the situation properly.
Rabies are transmitted to humans through the saliva of the infected animal, either by bite or by an open wound.
People who have been attacked by such animals should contact the doctor within 24 hours.
